.

In the early 1930’s, Texas enacted a Law that created the Division of Child Welfare Services which allowed the County Commissioner’s Court to coordinate community services for the protection of children. By 1939, these responsibilities were assumed by the State Department of Public Welfare. In 1976, regions formed Regional Child Welfare Advisory Councils and by 1979 the Texas Legislature appropriated state funds for foster care services. Over time the focus changed from child welfare to child protection as did the name of the current Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.

The Bee County Commissioner’s Court appoints members to the Bee County Child Welfare Board, a public body. As confidentiality is a major concern when dealing with a specific CPS case, some business is conducted in closed sessions. Members of the community may address the Board to express their comments and concerns.

The purpose of the Bee County Child Welfare Board is to advocate support services, educate the community on vulnerable children and their families, to promote the prevention of child abuse and neglect, and to ensure all children live in a loving, nurturing, safe environment.

The Child Welfare Board of Bee County meets at 6:00 p.m. Every second Monday of the month at the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services. These meetings are open to the Public.
