Kids it’s time to beautify Beeville by kicking up the dirt!  Teresa Holland, Bee County Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced today that on Monday October 15, 2001 the community was pulling together to plant wildflowers on the railroad right aways in downtown Beeville.  The planting would take place between 4 and 6 pm on Monday at the intersection of Madison and Hefferman.  The idea of the project came from Margaret Moser and was discussed at the Beautify Bee County Committee meeting.

This event is sponsored by the Joe Barnhart Foundation and State Bank and Trust with the help and assistance from the Bee County Chamber of Commerce, Bee Proud Bee Clean, the Beeville Garden Club, Margaret Moser, Troy Berthold, and others.  The planting event will also entail many younger volunteers with an open invitation to all who wish to participate.  In particular, all school age children are invited.  Bill Gibbens representing State Bank and Trust said the bank is sponsoring the event in a manner to make it fun for children, noting “we are attempting to get the youth in Beeville involved in the community and to give them a sense of ownership and pride.”  And it will be fun for the children with Free hot dogs and drinks along with seed to plant and to take home will be provided to the volunteers.  In addition, the children will also have the opportunity to meet "Bandit” the monkey who will express the need to keep the community clean.  There will also be a live remote provided by Kicker 106.

Holland stated that this is just one of the many great ideas discussed by the Beautify Bee County Committee which is made up of individuals representing many of the organizations in Beeville and Bee County.  Organizations such as the Chamber, Bee Proud Bee Clean, City of Beeville, the County of Bee, BISD, CBC, Beeville Garden Club, and others.  The timing of this project is correlated with the proper planting time of wildflowers.  The Committee is working hard to arrange future events as well.
