Mrs. Gloria Jean Lewis was called upon our Most Precious Lord to enter into the gates on December 8, 2004 at 2:35 p.m. into the gates of Heaven. 

Gloria was a precious child of God, and Bubba was calling upon his mother to be by his side in Heaven so God called upon Sister Gloria.  

She was preceded in death by one son: Shedric “Bubba” Lewis and one sister: Willa Dean Bess.  Gloria was born in Beeville, Texas on March 17, 1941 to the late Lawrence P. Bess and Mary Lou Barefield. 

Gloria Jean is survived by her loving husband Shedric L. Lewis Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters; Charlotte Stoval of Corpus Christi, Texas and Sonya Lewis of Oxnard, CA.; three sons: Charleston Bess of Sinton, Texas; Byron Lewis of Oxnard, CA and Justin Lewis of Beeville, Texas; two sisters; Estherleen Smith of Beeville, Texas and Bett;y Jean Bateman of  San Antonio, Texas; one brother; Ray Barefield of Beeville, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Gloria was a faithful Baptist and graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1958.

Funeral Services held December 14, 2004 at Bethlehem Baptist Church 2:00 p.m. and burial at St. Rose Cemetery in Beeville, Texas.Pallbearers were Charles Bess, Charleston Bess, Shelby and T.J. Lewis, Kelvin Davis, Julius Hunter, Charles Hodge Jr., Lionel Hodge and Mitchell Smith..  Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Evangelist Missionary Baptist Family, Vernon Hodge, Dadvid Bright Jr., and Deacon Bernard Johnson.

Birds of Paradise were released as a symbolic beauty representing the spirit of the departed loved one being released to begin the final journey home. Five white doves were released to ascend and circle the area.  Moments later, a single white dove was released; representing the spirit of the departing loved one.  Once released, it joins the others which represent the Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost and is lovingly guided on the final journey home.
