Tasia was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Austin, TX as a tax examiner. Prior to her diagnosis with cancer, Tasia was a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos. She was involved in the President’s Student Foundation, Sisterhood of Distinguished Latinas (Sigma Delta Lambda), Grupo Folklorico Ocotochtli, and LULAC, and she volunteered for numerous organizations and activities. Because of her love for folklorico dance, she founded “La Feria de San Marcos,” a folklorico event offering scholarship and educational opportunities for students of all ages.
Tasia graduated with honors from A.C. Jones High School in 1996 and was awarded the Ford Salute Scholarship Award among numerous other scholarships. A leader in her class, she held many offices in numerous organizations. She was involved in Drill Team, Spanish Club, Business and Professional Association, Student Council, choir, band, Interact Club, PALs, and the yearbook staff. Since the early age of three, she became a dancer, instructed folklorico dance since age twelve, and participated in numerous pageants including Diez Y Seis de Septiembre, Western Week, and LULAC Feria De Las Flores. She enjoyed volunteering instruction for dance groups of all ages and spending time with her family and friends organizing family events.
