Corpus Christi, Texas -Beeville, Texas

Tasia Marie Silvas passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at the age of 27 at Christus Spohn Beeville after a courageous battle with Adrenocortical Carcinoma, a rare form of cancer.  Born on June 12, 1978 to Michael and Anna Marie Silvas in Corpus Christi, TX she moved to Beeville with her family in 1987.

A public visitation will be held Thursday at Trevino Funeral Home from 1 to 5 p.m.  A rosary will be recited at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 7 p.m., Thursday.  Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at St. Joseph’s Church at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Tasia was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Austin, TX as a tax examiner.  Prior to her diagnosis with cancer, Tasia was a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos.  She was involved in the President’s Student Foundation, Sisterhood of Distinguished Latinas (Sigma Delta Lambda), Grupo Folklorico Ocotochtli, and LULAC, and she volunteered for numerous organizations and activities.  Because of her love for folklorico dance, she founded “La Feria de San Marcos,” a folklorico event offering scholarship and educational opportunities for students of all ages.

Tasia graduated with honors from A.C. Jones High School in 1996 and was awarded the Ford Salute Scholarship Award among numerous other scholarships.  A leader in her class, she held many offices in numerous organizations.  She was involved in Drill Team, Spanish Club, Business and Professional Association, Student Council, choir, band, Interact Club, PALs, and the yearbook staff.   Since the early age of three, she became a dancer, instructed folklorico dance since age twelve, and participated in numerous pageants including Diez Y Seis de Septiembre, Western Week, and LULAC Feria De Las Flores.  She enjoyed volunteering instruction for dance groups of all ages and spending time with her family and friends organizing family events.  She loved children and was known to spoil her young cousins with candies and gifts.  This summer she initiated a reading program for her young cousins in spite of her intense schedule of treatment at M.D. Anderson.

Tasia was preceded in death by her uncle, Peter Matthew Silvas, and her great grandparents, Willie and Felipa Morales, Basilio and Evarista G. Rivera, Theodoro and Antonio L. Garcia, and Rosalio and Jesusa Silvas.  She leaves numerous loved ones behind including her boyfriend, Joe Marin, her parents, Michael and Anna Marie Silvas, her siblings, Michael, Matthew, and Stephanie, and her grandparents, Raymond Sr. and Celia Silvas, and Antonio G. and Maria Rivera, uncles and aunts, Grace Rivera & Mario Piña (Brandie Papageorge, Mario Rivera, Anthony Perez, Marco Piña), Antonio Jr. & Pat Rivera (Brian, Priscilla, Mallory, Michael), Richard & Rebecca Rivera (Rebekah, Richard Jr.), Deborah Rivera (Richard De La Garza Jr.), Steve & Elva Rivera (Beatrice, Christopher), David & Esther Rivera (Jordan, Sierra), Raymond Jr. & Liz Silvas (Raymond III, Anthony, Lauren), Mary Elda & John Hinojosa (John IV, Veronica, Mary Catherine, Joseph), John & Cynthia Silvas (Eloisa, John Jr., Steven Peter), Paul Silvas Sr. (Yvonne Guerrero, Paul Jr.), Jacob & Tina Silvas (Tiffany, Tierney), Connie Silvas (Selena Anne), Laura & Michael Cantu (Michael II, Marcus, Matthew), Charles & Grace Silvas (Charles, Thomas, Salma, Andrew).
