5th & 6th History and Bible Instructions 2007-2008 [August-December]

 

History is scheduled for Monday/Wednesday/Friday

 

WORK IN TEXT BOOK

  • Comprehension Checks (CC) Each chapter will have several CCs.
  • The student is responsible for answering all the questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES and RESTATING the question in the answer.
  • Use NO PRONOUNS.
  • Underline the part of the sentence(s) that are the answer. 
  • The general layout of the text is that the answers are highlighted in some manner and  are in the section preceding the questions.
  • The student will have a book for SCHOOL and a book for HOME.

READ:

  • Read aloud the selection with your child.
  • Use this as a time to answer/ask questions.
  • Have your child write a response in COMPLETE SENTENCES.
  • Since one purpose for this assignment is to encourage parents and student to dialogue, the assignment is not complete, if the student reads without the parent. Some of the READs are difficult.
  • Neither the student nor you are required to understand everything you read. Do the best you can.
  • It is not necessary to spend a long time on these assignments.
  • Allow the student to give their answers, even when you think there may be a better answer.

SKIM:

  • Student is to SKIM their text book and write a 50+ word response in complete sentences.
  • Skimming is not reading.
  • The purpose of SKIM is to provide the student with a quick overview of the text.
  • This is always a good practice in any subject.

MEMorization:

  • Student will write the passages on Monday of each week at the beginning of class. They are not allowed to study in class before writing. Time given to write the verse will be limited.
  • They may use any translation. They will receive credit for close approximations as long as the main ideas are listed.
  • For a 100 they MUST have the passages quoted accurately and have the translation listed. If it is not the KJV, GN, or NIV they must provide a copy of the translation for comparison. 

HEADER:

  • Student MUST use proper heading on all papers which will contain:
  • Name,
  • Class,
  • DATE DUE,
  • DATE TURNED IN,
  • the assignment name, and their

 

  • student number.
