Prior News Release
2-2005

A familiar sight will be returning to the top of the Bee County Courthouse in Beeville, TX on Wednesday, March 2nd.  The 800 pound statue, titled "Lady Justice" (originally called Enlightened Justice by W.C. Stephenson, the architect who sculpted the statue and mounted her atop the Bee County Courthouse in 1917) has been removed from the courthouse for about five years. A young Beeville 4-H student, Lauron Fischer, worked with other 4-H members in 2000-2001 to raise about $30,000 in local contributions to get Lady Justice removed by cranes and sent off to a Dallas art studio for repairs. After her return, Lady Justice has been placed in the lobby of the Prosperity Bank in Beeville pending restoration of the Bee County Courthouse, a $3.5 million job which is now in progress.

On February 28, 2005, the Chamber of Commerce will be taking photos of individuals, families, and groups in front of Lady Justice before she is put back on the courthouse.
Place: Prosperity Bank Lobby
Time: 1am to 4 pm (note time change)
