Bee County Community Network
Acceptable Use Policy

The Bee County Community Network (BCCN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating an electronic community for improving educational, governmental, business, and individual opportunities in Bee County, Texas. BCCN is achieving this in part by increasing the number of computers available for public use in various locations around Bee County. Use of BCCN public access computers is a privilege for the citizens of Bee County, not a right. Accordingly, standards have been established for the conduct of BCCN clients. Those who wish to preserve the privilege of BCCN computer and internet access must follow these standards. Failure to do so may result in the reduction or elimination of user access to the BCCN computers, at the discretion of the BCCN Director.

Please read these standards for acceptable conduct in BCCN. If you agree with them, sign at the place indicated and return this Acceptable Use policy to the person who gave it to you. You may not use BCCN computers unless you have signed this policy letter.

BCCN users will:

  1. Remember that they are interacting on a global network and act appropriately;
  2. Avoid interfering with the work of other users;
  3. Avoid disrupting the network host systems; and
  4. Avoid disrupting network services.

More specifically, BCCN users will use the system in an acceptable manner. Behavior which is unacceptable and may result in cancellation includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Attempted or successful security breaches or disruption of network communication (i.e., Thacking” BCCN computers or their network);
  2. Vandalizing or otherwise intentionally damaging BCCN equipment, hardware, software, data, or operations;
  3. Use of the system for illegal or criminal purposes;
  4. Use of the system to access and view websites which feature pornography, hate-oriented material, or sites which advocate the practice of violence against other people;
  5. Use of obscene, offensive, abusive or otherwise objectionable language or material;
  6. Violating the privacy of individual users on the Internet by reading their E-mail or private communications to other users;
  7. Harassment of other users in any way
  8. Using e-mail, anonymous or otherwise, to send threatening messages to anyone
  9. Violation of any copyrights, trademarks, or software license agreements;
  10. Introducing viruses and other types of malicious programs into BCCN systems
  11. Use of the system as a means to improperly gain access to other computer systems, networks, or programs.

In addition, you may not install your personal software on BCCN computers for any reason whatsoever.

You also are prohibited from using BCCN to download music (.wav files, .mp3 files, etc.) or video files (.avi files, .mpg files, etc.)

BCCN is not responsible for, and makes no claim to, any material placed on its system by any user. BCCN does not claim any copyright, trademark, or other interest in information accessed through its system unless otherwise specifically indicated.
